A gorgeous afternoon in Liberty Plaza was the perfect way to start off this year’s Fourth of July weekend and Misty Lyn & The Big Beautiful only added to the excitement. On Thursday, at another excellent installment of Sonic Lunch, this local folk favorite filled the park with the melancholy sounds of roots music. A truly talented song writer, Misty Lyn, took the audience through a whirlwind of emotions and opened up about some of her most personal thoughts and memories.
The performance was like a dedication to Misty Lyn’s home, as she drew inspiration for her songs from the scenic landscapes of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Ypsilanti. Each song was a new escape into the furthest reaches of Lyn’s imagination. What brought everything together was The Big Beautiful, Lyn’s fabulous quartet, who provided rich instrumentals and back-up vocals that helped bring works like, “Flower Song” to a whole new level.
Misty Lyn & The Big Beautiful were the perfect band to help the crowd relax and unwind as they geared up for a lazy Independence Day weekend. Speaking of which, how did you all spend your long weekend?
