After weeks of close calls, the weather finally got the best of yesterday’s Sonic Lunch. Rather than performing in the rainy Liberty Park, the concert was moved to a near-by, enclosed parking lot. This caused a delay in the performance, but The Ultrasounds were well worth the wait.
Right from the beginning of their set, the parking lot turned into one of the coolest indie rock parties of the summer. After spending the past year in Chicago, The Ultrasounds couldn’t have been more excited to return to their home city of Ann Arbor. They brought with them a ton of energy and creativity that had the umbrella clad crowd dancing all afternoon long. With influences of pop, classic rock, and even psychedelic leanings, what isn’t there to love about The Ultrasounds? Plus, they have a fun, hair whipping, girl drummer. Who doesn’t love that?
The trio is already set to begin recording their third studio album this September, but until then, you can listen to their first two CDs online for free at http://theultrasounds.net/. The Ultrasounds was just one of the many native bands playing at this year’s Sonic Lunch series. Are there any other local bands you can’t wait to see at Sonic Lunch in the upcoming weeks?
